In India, more than fifty per cent of the population has no access to safe drinking water, and nearly two lakh people die every year for lack of access to safe water. One may think covid-19 is the biggest crisis. Still, in reality, it is a water crisis plaguing India. Responding to the impending water crisis, global in nature, the Govt of India created a separate ministry of #JalShakti. To mitigate the problem, through public awareness programmes, water conservation techniques, low-cost water filtration, digitalisation of water supply rain harvesting, restoration of water bodies and a host of other measures are the priorities. The time is ticking. A report released by Finland Future Watch and NITI Aayog, 2018 warns that India will face a demand for portable water outstripping supply by 2030 if steps are not taken.
The Climate Reality Project India joined hands with #JalShakti Ministry #TV18 #ReckittBenckiser in mobilising the students, parents, public at large to pledge water conservation on Nov 19. The founder #ClimateReality Mr Al Gore joined the campaign with the honourable vice president Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu and Honourable Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
